Flinders + Co emerged from Flinders Island Meat, a venture inspired by the pioneering spirit of David Madden.
One day, David discovered an abandoned abattoir for sale on a small island and decided to risk everything, selling his belongings and leaving his comfortable life in Melbourne for this remote location.
His goal was simple yet ambitious: to curate a product of exceptional quality and provenance.
Joined by his son James in 2011, the business has overcome many setbacks, challenges, and significant changes.
David achieved his goal — Flinders Island Lamb is celebrated by top chefs as the finest lamb produced in Australia.
The company has changed a lot since those early days. We no longer own an abattoir on Flinders Island and David is now semi-retired.
The business has pivoted to representing and championing other producers of exceptional distinction.
However, we remain a family company with the same drive and purpose behind our name — Flinders + Co.
